C.D. Ozbirn

C.D. Ozbirn, 83, of Elkville, passed away at 12:00 P.M., Monday, March 22, 2004 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
C.D. was a retired Baptist Minister and a retired mining industry welder. He was a Baptist and a US Army Veteran of W.W. II serving as a Tec-4. He received a W.W. II Victory medal and the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two bronze stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was born June 29, 1920 at Hackleburg, AL the son of William Roscoe and Mary Janie (Wamsley) Ozbirn.
He married Iona Elizabeth Hamilton on February 20, 1956 at Cassopolis, MI. She died November 15, 2003.
He is survived by nine children- Drenon Ozbirn of Jackson Gap, AL, Brenda Chappel and husband Joe of Jackson Gap, AL, Lee Vuichard and wife Kay of St. Charles, MO, Mary Durnell of Belleville, IL, Norma Beal of Blytheville, Ark, Virginia Carrel of Elkville, IL, Rose Wayer and husband David of Elkville, IL, Cathy Colcord of Belleville, IL, Bill Ozbirn and wife Evn Suk of Ujoinbu, S. Korea. Twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and fifteen great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sister and three brothers.
Funeral services were at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, March 25, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Raymond D. Baggott officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment will be in the Elkville Cemetery.
Military graveside rites were conducted.
Friends may make memorials to the Pinckneyville Hospital Skilled Care Unit.
